At Broadreach we understand that the success and strength of any trip depends to a great extent on the quality of the leaders. Our top-notch instructors and intensive staff training set us apart from other teen summer programs and are the cornerstone of our approach to safety. We take great care in selecting and evaluating our staff from hundreds of applicants. Many return year after year, and several are past participants, helping to ensure the consistent high quality of our trips. Our leaders are energetic, outgoing, genuine, fun, well-educated and well-traveled, with solid experience and a love for working with teens. They are the kind of people you'd want to learn from and have an adventure with!

Our instructors bring a wealth of experiences to Broadreach, as every program requires a different set of skills and backgrounds. Our staff includes experiential education professionals, college professors, high school teachers, PADI professional scuba instructors, marine biologists, Coast Guard licensed sailing masters and graduate students. All of our staff members are required to complete Broadreach's extensive staff training. With each group, we have a Course Instructor that is certified in emergency medicine as either a Wilderness First Responder (WFR) or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with a minimum of 80 hours of emergency medical training. Most trips have both female and male leaders, and the average age of our staff is 26.

Along with necessary hard skills for our program activities, Broadreach instructors must have a special understanding of group dynamics, teamwork and leadership. They are motivated by a desire to work with young adults and share their love of the outdoors. In addition to our Broadreach leaders, experienced guides, outfitters, local naturalists and ecologists often join us to enhance the learning experience.
